At the age of four, Fiona's mother died leaving her with her abusive and alcoholic father. She has no other siblings, so she always got the full force of his anger. Most of her time was spent in her room reading, or doing anything that kept her away from her father. He didn't let her go out much, only to school and the occasional shopping for cheap clothes at the local consignment shop.
School was like an escape for her throughout her childhood because she could be away from her father for those glorious 8 hours of the day. She didn't have any close friends, but was kind with the other students. Characters of books were her closest friends. She would read through the lunch period and on the bus on the way home.
As she grew older she signed up for extra curricular activities in school. Anything to keep her a way from home. She tried soccer in 5th grade and realized that she wasn't a sports person. From there she joined the choir and participated in school plays. She made a few friends, but none that were very close. She was afraid to tell anyone of her home life, about how her father beat her almost every night.
For her 18th birthday, her uncle gave her a hand me down car from the 90s much to the disapproval of Fiona's father. He punished her for that, but still did not take away the car. She tried to find reasons to stay away from home after school, but she knew he would always be waiting for her to come back with some reason to begin to abuse her.
Slowly her fantasy world in books was not enough to keep her sane and she slipped into a deep bout of depression. She had no one to remind her that she was wanted in this world and often felt like she just wanted to get out. The only thing that kept her hanging on was the thought of her mother, and how unhappy it would have made her if Fiona took her own life.

Taken from an Original Character Twilight RPG. The parts bolded are my character, Oliver Porter.
Oliver creeped to the edge of the forest, the smell of human blood hung heavily in the air. He had been traveling endlessly without a meal, and the burn inside of his throat was slowly driving him to insanity.
A sidewalk traveled alongside the trees in which he was hiding. A little ways down the road was a restaurant swarming with the local people. All he had to do was wait.
Like a statue he stood next to a large tree, mottled moonlight fell through the leaves and illuminated his icy skin. His eyes were black, blacker than the night sky. Oliver was growing impatient.
Jesse wandered the forest. He was thirsty. He knew he'd have to be back at school soon, so between that and the party the other night with all of those... humans around. He needed to hunt.
As he wandered, he caught the scent of humans near by. He knew there was a restaurant not far from here; but if he stayed in the forest, he had no need to worry. They would never see him.
Just as he caught the scent of a deer and made the decision to go after it, the wind blew and another scent caught his nostrils. Another vampire he thought, changing his direction to see who it was.
A low growl of impatience rumbled deep within Oliver's chest. He was so thirsty, so hungry. He was contemplating even killing every person in the entire restaurant just to be fulfilled. But he knew he couldn't do that. He may be discovered. That is why he was waiting for a lonely straggler to walk down his way.
But no straggler ever seemed to show. With his vampire speed, he dashed over to the back of the building. Perhaps being closer would quicken the process of him getting his meal. He could catch a waitress coming to take out the trash, or a bus boy out for a cigarette break. It didn't matter. He lingered in the shadow of the dumpster, leaning against the wall. Any minute now...
Just as he was about to approach the vampire, Jesse watched him jump behind the building. What is this guy doing? Jesse thought. Then lowering his walls, Jesse was able to discern the other vampire's thoughts.
He intended to feed. Off of the humans. He was unknowingly going to start a war with the Quileutes. This couldn't happen.
Jesse growled low in his throat and snuck around the building. "Hello, friend," Jesse said, quieter than the wind. But still he knew the other vampire could hear him.
Oliver smelled the other vampire before he heard him speak. Though the stranger seemed friendly, Oliver still went on the defensive.
"What do you want?" Oliver asked him. This vampire was different; his eyes were not the typical red, but gold. His scent was a bit different than the average scent of a vampire, too. Increasingly, Oliver's stance got lower. He was used to confrontations from other vampires. Over his 700 years of vampiric existence, others always seemed to underestimate him. He had the strength and experience to overcome almost any opposition.
Jesse immediately notices the other vampire's threatening stance. He placed his hands in the air, signaling peace. Jesse didn't want to start a fight. Not here, with all these people around.
"I just wanted to talk to you," he finally answered, after having taken a small step backwards.
Raising an eyebrow, Oliver nodded his head once. He still felt a bit skeptical. He had heard that phrase before, and then got jumped when least expected.
"What is it that you would like to know?" Oliver asked quietly, his silky voice floating through the air. He stood completely still with his face expressionless.
