Tidbits
• Habits: Holly has a habit of talking way too much to people she hardly knows. She's just a generally social person but she wouldn't consider herself to be a 'social butterfly.' And while she tends to have a very clean and orderly house, she hates doing dishes and they are always piled up in the sink.
• Quirks: When she's nervous she licks and bites her lips constantly. When she's thinking she tends to stick out her tongue and purse her lips, for some reason it helps her think.
• Dreams: Holly's dream isn't a normal dream for someone of her age. She doesn't want the husband, the family, the perfect house with a white picket fence. Holly just wants to be able to express herself. She wants to have someone that not only needs her, but also enjoys the more interesting things in life. She wants to be able to travel and not worry so much about having money, or paying bills. She wants to be free to explore and free to create. She wants to live a life that people wouldn't consider 'normal.'

"That is an interesting idea." She turned the pages, "But I think that everything somehow is connected, everything some how relates otherwise there would be no way that every living creature could manage. We all need each other to survive." Holly nodded, smiling, looking up at Arend again, "You should have been a philsophy professor instead of a history teacher." She chuckled.
"A philosophy professor?" he smiled. "Oh no, I failed all my Western Philosophy courses at university. Somehow the disproven accounts of 3rd century Greeks never seemed very interesting. Wars of attrition, on the other hand..." Trailing off, he watched her watch him with eyes that seemed younger than they were. "Do you believe in reincarnation, Holly?"
She chuckled, letting him just talk, she might not always have understood what he was saying, but she found it interesting nonetheless. "I think it's possible, sure." Holly nodded, "There has to be something after this, right?" She shrugged, "What made you ask that?"
"Curiosity," he replied without missing a beat. "Some people believe in Heaven. Some people believe this lifetime is all we have. Others do not." He didn't hurry to tell her which he felt was the truer version. "That book has a lot to say about dying and what happens once you die. Vampirism is just one version of eternal damnation after all."
"I feel kinda bad for vampires, whenever you read about them, well, some of them they always seem so lonely you know? You just want to help them." Flipping through a few more pages, "At least I do. A lot of them just long for someone to be with them and love them despite what they are, because deep down they do know what it was like before.." Holly looked up at Arend and gave him a little smile. "But then there are some that just go bad, you know? The ones that just think they have to be monsters."
Arend leaned over the desk, arms folded against the edge. His voice changed as his demeanor did, becoming darker. Firmer. "They feed off of our blood, Holly. They are ruled by their thirst and the knowledge that they cannot die. Like men devoid of conscience. There's a reason legends depict them as being monsters." He didn't find it so strange that she was defending the species - she was Otto's find. A credit to him.
"They also can't help it. Most of them didn't ask to become vampires and are then sentenced to eternal damnation as you said. They are merely victims and they are still people. They still feel even though they are monsters, even though they feed on blood. They are in living hell." Holly raised her eyebrows and leaned back in the chair, "What are you, Arend?" Holly asked curiously, her face now knowing. "And why do you have such a high opinion about the subject? Why have you had this book for so long? This doesn't look just like any library book."
"I have many interests," he placated, admiring her for her quickness of mind as much as he begrudge her courage. Careful, dear, before you find out things you can't handle. Yet. "Many people die unfairly. That's the nature of life. Children, husbands, wives... friends who leave us before we've said our goodbyes. They don't ask for the end of their meager existence either. In theory, it's the same for vampires. Besides, as with most legends, the focus is on the humans left behind and suddenly faced with this threat. It's only natural to fear the unknown, don't you think?"
"And I would feel just as sorry for someone who died, as I would for a vampire. Why should they get such horrible credit? Aren't there such things as good vampires?" She shrugged, "I've never really been afraid of all that much." Holly raised her eyebrows and shrugged, "People aren't really that great at hiding things from me.." She had a slight smirk on her face, "I've met a lot of people lately with soem very special talents, I wish I had one." Glancing down at the book, flipping a few more pages, "But I guess that's life right? The grass is always greener."
