Rose watched Charlie, turning to face her on the floor. She pulled her knees up to her chest, wrapping her arms around them and resting her chin on top. She was a bit confused at what was going on inside her head. She felt strongly about Charlie... but in a more than friend way. How was the possible....
"Do you like it here, Charlie?" she asked.

Charlie stared at the fire with a slight absence of the mind. How she thought of this situation was probably different than someone would suspect. Charlie missed home, more than anything, but she liked being somewhere where she believed she didn't need to hide. So the question was...did she like it here in Crocker?
"I like it better than the world of judgement outside of these forest walls..."

Rose nodded. "I can understand that. I've never been past the woods, so I don't know how it is, but I know we are more.... understanding here," she said softly. She wanted Charlie to like it here, and not just because of the lack of judgement. Because she truly liked living there.

Charlie stared at the fireplace with a longing in her eyes. A longing she felt for home in which nothing could seem to fill the void. That feeling would suffocate her forever. As the flames licked the fireplace, Charlie forced her eyes to refocus once again. "I feel safer here."

Rose kept her eyes on Charlie, trying to read her expression, but she couldn't quite make out what she was thinking. It was odd, usually she could read people very well, but Charlie was different. It was inviting. "Yeah, Crocker can do that," she said smiling. She inched herself forward towards the girl to rest her chin on her knee.

Charlie gazed at the fire again until she felt Rose' chin rest on her knee. She in took a slow breath and let out a sigh as she thought about home. Remembering her mother, how she used to be before her father disappeared, how her father used to be with his photography. How her uncle Mark tried so hard to finish a story but couldn't ever end them. Charlie wondered if her story would end up like one of Mark's novels, begin and continue, but never get it's ending.
Slowly, Charlie's eyes shifted, gazing down at her friend...her only friend. "Sometime's I wonder what would have happened if I had never left...if they would have accepted me, or turned me away..."

Rose bit her lip. "Who knows. But you should dwell on what if's. I used to do that when I was younger. What if I had asked my parents to stay home that night? What if they hadn't died? What if my powers had never developed. I just about went crazy with what if's. If you allow yourself to keep questioning it, it will take you over," she said softly.

Charlie let out another short sigh as Rose finished. She was right, dwelling on the what if's were never going to get her anywhere. She could dwell on what could posibly have happened, but what has happened has happened, it wasn;t changing. She wasn't going back to redo her mistake, or choice, or whatever it was she made that night she fled. Charlie just nodded a bit, not sure she had a response now. As the fire looked like it was going to fade down she lifted her hand a bit, causing the fire to stir up and rise. Just enough to be a nice warming fire again.

Rose glanced over her shoulder as Charlie made the fire bigger. It didn't even faze her, she just turned back to Charlie. She didn't say anything, letting Charlie be the one to break the silence. She was content to sit with Charlie, resting her chin on the girl's knee. It was comfortable.

"River..." Charlie said quietly, after a long moment of silence, just gazing off into the fire. She let out a small breath as she felt the heat from the fire. "Have you ever been to New york?"

Rose shook her head. "No. I've never left Crocker Turn. My brother is too over protective," she said, rolling her eyes.

Charlie laughed a little, flipping the zippo at her side. "Maybe one day i'll take you there..."

"It's green, lots of people...in the city there are hundreds of buildings...one of the museums holds some amazing paintings and photographs taken by some pretty good artists." Charlie smiled slightly. "Not to mention the food..."

Rose smiled up at her, loving the idea of a city away from Crocker. "What else? Tell me more," she said excitedly.
